Mew VMAX Deck Guide and Deck List - Pokemon TCG

Mew VMAX Deck Guide for Pokemon TCG

In Pokemon TCG, the Mew VMAX Deck is based on the Mew VMAX Pokemon card, which can mimic attacks. The primary objective of the Mew VMAX deck is to set up your bench, Mew V, and evolve on turn two. With a loaded Fusion Strike Deck, Double Turbo Energy, you can start mimicking Genesect V attack doing 210 damage as early as turn two. This deck races out to an early lead and holds on by constant knockouts.

We will go through a Mew VMAX decklist, a guide on how to play it, and the crucial cards. Let’s first show you the deck list so you understand the premise behind the Pokemon TCG: Mew VMAX Deck Guide.

Key Cards in Mew VMAX

While Mew VMAX is the centerpiece of the deck, there will be other Pokemon, Supports, and Energy that emphasize the Fusion Strike mechanics. This simply means, your deck is themed to optimize the use of Fusion Strike Pokemon, Energy, and Supporters. Using a combination of these cards, you can quickly get your action and bench set up, doing damage, and early knockouts. Once out to a lead in prize cards, it will be tough for the opposition to catch you. So, here are the most important cards in the new Mew VMAX deck and how to use them.

Below are the most essential key cards in the Mew VMAX Deck:

  1. Mew VMAX: Mimics damage
  2. Genesect V: Helps Drawing Cards
  3. Battle VIP Pass: Powerful First Turn
  4. Elesa’s Sparkle: Synergy with Fusion Strike Pokemon
  5. Fusion Strike Energy: Provides Any Energy to Fusion Strike Pokemon

Mew VMAX

Mew VMAX - Pokemon TCG

Mew VMAX Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Pokémon: VMAX
  • Type: Psychic
  • Evolves from: Mew V
  • HP: 310
  • Attack: Cross Fusion Strike Choose 1 of your Benched Fusion Strike Pokémon’s attacks and use it as this attack.
  • Attack: Max Miracle (130 damage+) this attack’s damage isn’t affected by any effects on your opponent’s Active Pokémon.
  • Pokémon ex rule: When your Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 3 Prize cards.
  • Weakness ×2 Darkness
  • Resistance: -30 Fighting
  • Retreat Cost: None
  • Set: Fusion Strike 114/264 VM

For huge damage early on, Mew VMAX is your primary Pokemon.  The combination to use with this card is Mew VMAX, Double Turbo Energy, and Genesect V.  Mew VMAX’s attack, Cross Fusion Strike can be used on a bench Pokemon with only one Double Turbo Energy attached. Genesect V Techno Blast does 210 damage and is a powerful knockout tool initially and throughout a match.

Moreover, you can use cards like Power Tablet to do a bit more damage with knockouts requiring 220 or 230 damage.  Mew VMAX is incredibly strong because it only costs one double-turbo energy with a high likelihood of getting this combo on turn two.  This is the primary reason Battle VIP Pass and Ultra Ball are incorporated into the deck.  Get out quickly, and start knocking out Pokemon with Cross Fusion Strike.

Genesect V

Genesect V - Pokemon TCG

Genesect V Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Pokémon: V
  • Type: Metal
  • HP: 190
  • Ability: Fusion Strike System Once during your turn, you may draw cards until you have as many cards in your hand as you have Fusion Strike Pokémon in play.
  • Attack: Techno Blast (210 damage+) During your next turn, this Pokémon can’t attack.
  • Pokémon ex rule: When your Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.
  • Weakness ×2 Fire
  • Resistance: -30 Grass
  • Retreat Cost: 2 basic energy
  • Set: Fusion Strike 185/264 V

Your primary means of drawing cards consistently is Genesect V.  This Fusion Strike card’s ability, Fusion Strike System, draws cards based on your Fusion Strike Pokemon.  This is the reason you want to load up your bench full of Pokémon and have two Genesect V if possible.  Once filled, you can constantly draw cards like Bibarel.

Your deck won’t have metal energy but uses Fusion Strike Energy.  We will explain this later, but for now, consider Genesect V mainly a facilitator of drawing cards.  Getting one or more on your bench helps Mew VMAX attack and keep your hands full.

Battle VIP Pass

Battle VIP Pass - Pokemon TCG

Battle VIP Pass Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Trainer: Item
  • Search your deck for up to 2 Basic Pokémon and put them onto your Bench. Then, shuffle your deck.
  • Set: Fusion Strike 225/264 Uncommon

Your primary goal is to get both Mew V and Genesect V on your bench on turn one.  Ideally, you will have a Battle VIP Pass to find the basic version of the cards you may be missing on turn one. After turn one, consider this card discard fodder for Ultra Ball. Typically, Ultra Ball helps you find Mew VMAX to evolve and start your attack phase.  Meloetta can also be a strong Pokémon to put in play as well, due to its Melodious Echo attack.

Elesa’s Sparkle

Elesa’s Sparkle - Pokemon TCG

Elesa’s Sparkle Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Trainer: Supporter
  • Choose up to 2 of your Fusion Strike Pokémon. For each of those Pokémon, search your deck for a Fusion Strike Energy card and attach it to that Pokémon. Then, shuffle your deck.
  • Set: Fusion Strike 233/264 Uncommon

Often overlooked, Elesa’s Sparkle is a perfect fit in any Fusion Strike Pokemon deck.  This card allows you to attach a Fusion Strike Energy card to up to two Pokemon.  This Support is the primary means to accelerate energy to Fusions Strike Pokemon, which is essentially your entire deck. Moreover, this Support enables Meloetta basic Pokemon to start attacking for higher damage.  This is a great card to play early in the game when searching for Fusion Strike Energy.

Fusion Strike Energy

Fusion Strike Energy - Pokemon TCG

Fusion Strike Energy Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Energy: Special Energy
  • This card can only be attached to a Fusion Strike Pokémon. If this card is attached to anything other than a Fusion Strike Pokémon, discard this card.
  • As long as this card is attached to a Pokémon, it provides every type of Energy but provides only 1 Energy at a time. Prevent all effects of your opponent’s Pokémon’s Abilities done to the Pokémon this card is attached to.
  • Set: Obsidian Flames 164/227 Double Rare

The benefit of Fusion Strike Energy if it provides any energy type to Fusion Strike Pokémon.  This means metal Pokemon like Genesect V can be powered by this card without carrying metal energy in the deck.  Moreover, you can accelerate energy potential with Elesa’s Sparkle support, allowing you to power multiple Fusion Strike Pokemon in one turn.  If you go second on turn one, this is a powerful combination with Double Turbo Energy.  Hopefully, by turn two, you will have a powered-up Mew VMAX with a benched Genesect V ready to copy the attack.

Mew VMAX Deck Strategy

The ideal hand for this deck is one Battle VIP Pass, 1 Double Turbo Energy, and Ultra Ball. You use Battle VIP Pass to bench Genesect V, Mew V, and or Meloetta. Once this is completed, you attach Double Turbo Energy to Mew V and Ultra Ball for Mew VMAX assuming it’s not in your hand. On turn two, Mew V should be in the active spot, evolve to Mew VMax, and mimic Genesect V attack for 210 damage.

This setup is critical to getting out to an early lead and doesn’t require Rare Candy or complex evolutions. Once you are out in front with Mew VMAX, start loading up your bench with additional Fusion Strike Pokemon and energy. Retreat Mew VMAX if you expect a knockout as it gives up 3 prize cards. Additionally, Path to the Peak or Lost Vacuum are your counters to cards or abilities you need to remove.

For drawing cards and keeping your hand full, use a combination of Iono and Genesect V. If you have multiple copies, you can use the ability more than once per turn to keep your hand full of cards depending on your favorite Fusion Strike Pokemon. Lastly, use the Power Tablet item when you need big damage to take out Roaring Moon ex, Chien-Pao ex, or other meta decks. This should be a fun experience that is dependent on a good early start.
