How to Find Mystic Spearhand Vocation Maister
In Dragon’s Dogma 2, each vocation has a powerful ultimate ability that you can only unlock by finding the Vocation Maister and earning their approval. Completing some of the quests can be time-consuming, but the powerful abilities usually are worth it.
Moreover, you do not have to have any specific Vocation Rank before unlocking ultimate abilities. However, you do have to have the vocation itself unlocked. Consequently, since Mystic Spearhand is a Hybrid Vocation you will first have to find the Maister to unlock the vocation.
Since it is possible to find the Maister, unlock the vocation, and get the ultimate ability at the same time, we’ll include all of that information in our How to Find the Mystic Spearhand Vocations Maister in Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide.
How to Find Mystic Spearhand Maister Sigurd
- Maister: Sigurd
- Location: Melve, sometimes Harve Village, later Dragonsbreath Tower
- Required Quest: Readvent of Calamity. You can first meet Sigurd at Melve when you return a few days after arriving at Vernworth and completing at least one main quest there. When you arrive, a dragon will be attacking the town again and Readvent of Calamity will automatically trigger.
- Follow-Up: You will later find Sigurd again in the kingdom of Battahl at the Dragonsbreath Tower southeast of the capital Bakbattahl. At the base of the Tower, he will ask for your assistance in defeating the dragon attacking it. You will have to fight your way to the top, and then defeat the dragon.
- Quest Timer: It’s unknown if there is a quest timer beyond which you can fail the quest.
- Ultimate Ability – Wild Furie: Unleashes a flurry of slashes and magical attacks. Additional button presses continue the onslaught by consuming stamina.
How To Start the Readvent of Calamity Quest
You will not find Sigurd in the town of Melve the first time you visit but will need to further the main story before you can trigger the events which will cause Sigurd to appear.
Here are the steps you take to trigger the Readvent of Calamity quest:
- Follow the game until it takes you to the capital city of Vernworth. You’ll visit Melve early on, but Sigurd won’t be there yet.
- In Vernworth meet with Captain Brant in the bar/pub at night and agree to help cull monsters.
- Visit the three separate locations, kill the monsters, and turn in the quest to Captain Brant.
- Wait or rest until at least three days have passed.
- REST AT AN INN before you leave town. You will want this save in case you need to reload.
- Go to the ox cart station on the northeast side of town and get a ride back to Melve.
- When you arrive a dragon should be attacking the town again. As you approach, the Readvent of Calamity will automatically begin.
How To Defeat the Dragon in Melve
You can’t defeat the dragon in Melve by attacking it directly in melee, however there is a way to defeat it by using the ballista on top of the tower. If you can pull this off, then Sigurd will not only unlock the class for you, but his approval should be high enough for him to immediately give you the ultimate skill. Moreover, killing the dragon here also gives you a chance to loot the best Duospear in the game, Dead Ringer, from the beast’s body.
Here are the steps you take to defeat the dragon in Melve:
- Ignore the dragon. Instead, take the path on your right which runs north around the town.
- Run back to the ballista tower in the northwest corner of town. Climb to the top.
- Push the bottom portion of the ballista so that it is pointing in the direction of the town.
- Climb up and ‘Use’ the ballista. Your pawns should come up shortly to work the mechanism which will allow you to pull down the aim.
- Pull back the ballista bolt. This will take a long time. Watch the mechanism so that you don’t shoot it too soon.
- Aim and fire. You will need two successful hits. If you miss the second shot, the dragon will fly off.
If you aren’t successful in killing the dragon, use your ‘Last Inn Save’ to start back at Vernworth and try again. After defeating the dragon the game should automatically port you back down to the ground, where Ulrika will speak to you, and then you’ll talk to Sigurd.
When the dialogue prompt pops up, choose to ‘Ask about his manner of fighting.’ This will unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation. Additionally, if you have a high enough approval with Sigurd he will also give you the Paladin’s Enigmata scroll.
How to Get the Wild Furie Skill if Melve Dragon Escaped
If you’ve tried to kill the dragon at Melve, or you’re past that point in the game, you will still have another chance to help Sigurd and gain the Mystic Spearhand ultimate skill. This will come later in the game after you reach the kingdom of Battahl. Before you can get into Battahl you will need to progress the main story quest far enough that Captain Brant gives you a Beastren Border Entry Permit. If your Arisen is a Beastren, this permit will get you past the checkpoint gate. If you are Human, you will have to buy a Beastren mask from Ibrahim’s Scrap Shop first.
It will be a long walk south but eventually, you’ll reach the beastren capital city of Bakbattahl. From there, you can find the Dragonsbreath Tower location far to the southwest. You will be able to see the dragon on the upper level of the tower. At the bottom, you’ll find Sigurd again, and he asks to join you in the fight.
Head inside, and as you climb up the tower you will be fighting several smaller enemies such as skeletons. They shouldn’t give you too much trouble, but take care to save your strength for the dragon fight. Additionally, it can be dark in the Tower, so be sure to bring along oil for your lantern.
Once you reach the dragon it will be time for a serious fight. The usual dragon strategies apply. Send in the tank to draw its aggro, bring a Mage along for healing, and aim to hit the pustules to do the most damage and knock it down.
Once it has been defeated, speak to Sigurd and he should give you the Paladin’s Enigmata scroll, which you can Use to acquire Wild Furie!
